Tāmaki

Tāmaki is a tiny East Auckland suburb located 11 kilometres from the Auckland CBD in New Zealand’s North Island. It is situated on the banks of the estuarial Tāmaki River, which is a southern arm of the Hauraki Gulf. The suburb is located between the suburbs of Point England to the north and Panmure to the south.

According to the 2018 New Zealand census, Tāmaki had a population of 4,278 people and 1,167 households.

East Tāmaki is situated several kilometres south of Tāmaki and gets its name from the fact that it is on the eastern side of the Tamaki River, rather than from its proximity to Tāmaki.

Local Schools

Tāmaki Primary School is a primary school, and Sommerville School is a special education school; the two schools are adjacent to each other.
