One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. The residential area of the suburb is situated to the east and south-east of Maungakiekie / One Tree Hill, from which it gets its name, with the volcanic peak located within the suburb’s boundaries.

According to the 2018 New Zealand census, One Tree Hill had a population of 4,506 people and 1,680 households.

Maungakiekie (One Tree Hill) Volcanic Peak

Maungakiekie, also known as One Tree Hill, is a 182-meter-high volcanic mountain in Auckland. It is a significant memorial site for Māori and other New Zealanders.

One Tree Hill is also the name of the neighbourhood that surrounds the base of the hill. It is bounded to the west by Royal Oak, and clockwise by Epsom, Greenlane, Oranga, and Onehunga.

The summit offers panoramic views of Auckland and allows tourists to see both of the city’s harbours.

“Wow!”, — I exclaimed, turning the TV volume down. It sounded so crazy I couldn’t believe it! Nature is amazing!

In July, a TV set appeared in our apartment. Winter evenings in front of the screen with a mug of black tea became cozy and even informative.

Steve and I both loved to watch history and geography programs since our childhoods. A documentary about the Auckland volcanic field did not go unnoticed. I didn't know that my new city is located on 53 volcanoes!

“We need to visit every single one!”, — I said suddenly. Google helped, and Steve found a list of volcanoes in Auckland. We started ticking them off the list once we climbed them.

So I decided that I want to share unique places with you. There will be photos, as well as a separate Instagram guide on volcanoes on my page.

Happy Easter everyone!! I pray you find extra joy in your life this weekend and have some time to reflect on all the good things going on for you and accept the things that can’t be changed right now.
If you’re keen to get into the meaning of Easter, most churches will be having special services, otherwise enjoy the extra family time!

This is a wee piece from 2015. I did a whole series of miniatures and realised I love working small, so have continued to do miniatures alongside “normal” sized works ever since 😊

Silver beet, pine nuts and sultanas... the base for a vegetarian version of south of France Tarte de Blettes. Once lightly sautés in a bit of olive oil, lay a flaky pastry in an oven dish and once blind baked, throw in a beaten egg and a handful of your favorite grated cheese then place that mix on your dough back in the oven for another 30mn at 190•c. Bon appétit! 😋🤩😘
