Onehunga is a suburb of Auckland, New Zealand, and home to the Port of Onehunga, the city’s small port on Manukau Harbour. It is located eight kilometres south of the city centre, close to the Maungakiekie volcanic cone.
Onehunga is a residential and light-industrial suburb. In the surrounding area, there are about 1,000 commercial and industrial enterprises. According to the 2018 New Zealand census, Onehunga had a population of 11,772 people and 4,278 households.
While the suburb was mostly a working-class community for much of the 20th century, it has experienced some redevelopment since the 1990s. Many of the 1920s bungalows have recently been restored, and Dress Smart has re-energized the local economy.
