Penrose

Penrose is an industrial suburb of Auckland, New Zealand. It is approximately nine kilometres south-east of the city centre, between the suburbs of Oranga and Mount Wellington.

Because of its proximity to the main railway line and the Great South Road, industry began to thrive in the region beginning in the 1920s. Today, the suburb is almost entirely commercial, with a combination of run-down and newly developed areas.

According to the 2018 New Zealand census, Penrose had a population of 843 people and 297 households.

Education

Despite its small population, Penrose is home to the old Penrose High School, which renamed itself One Tree Hill College in 2008 to avoid the ‘western’ connotations of the name.
